BBQ

After what seems an eternity, we have finally been able to have a Social at the sailing club. We all know that the Coronavirus has caused heartache for so many and we have had to be patient.
So a BBQ was a good way to kick off the social scene at Porthpean.
I put out the usual emails telling all what the plan was, and the club used the opportunity to buy a new marquee. On the Friday evening a team of volunteers gathered at the club and moved dinghies from the yard and erected the marquee in readiness for the Saturday.
Over 60 club members and families wanted to attend so a big shop was needed to buy in all the BBQ fare. Andrew and Jenny Kendall had offered to act as chefs for the evening and with help from Pete Barnes and myself the fires were lit and food hit the grill.
From 6.45pm onwards a steady stream of familiar faces descended on the club.
The bar was open and was soon doing a roaring trade.
The food was served outside on a lovely summers evening which was a blessing after a few days of unsettled weather. Just to round off the eating, ice creams were handed out.
It was then time for sailing trophies won on the sea in the last sailing season to be handed out to those that had sailed and been successful in the different fleets. Applause was rightly given and deserved.
There was no need to put on any other entertainment as the banter among groups of club members was all that was needed to make a good evening.
Paddy was on hand to capture the ambience of the gathering. See below for random pictures.
It’s always good when a social is well attended and everything goes to plan.

So, as social secretary I just want to say a thank you to all for joining in and making the evening a success.
