75th Anniversary Celebrations🎉
WOW!! 🎉🎉🎉
We really do know how to celebrate in style!
On Thursday 23rd July we assembled our new marquee, adorned it with bunting and lights and bought mountains of ingredients for the food we would be offering over our celebration weekend!
Friday evening was kicked off in fabulous style with the clubhouse packed to capacity with both current and past members including several previous Commodores and Honorary Life members. Friends, neighbours and special guests came to celebrate with us!
Ken took to the stage presenting an absolutely fabulous and at times hilarious History of Porthpean Sailing Club! So many members relished reliving fantastic sailing memories and it was wonderful to hear and see how the club has evolved since 1951.
Pasties were enjoyed by all and a most wonderful evening had truly kicked off our 75th Anniversary weekend! 🎉
On Saturday apart from a fabulous days sailing to mark the start of Charlestown Regatta, our evening onshore celebrations continued…Our intrepid team led by Andrew and Mike took to the barbecues to cook us a wonderful array of meats and vegan alternatives.
Teamed with a delectable selection of Greek salads, coleslaws, potato salads etc served up by Isobel, Suzanne, Mandy, Jenny and Shar everyone enjoyed a plateful of delicious bbq and the days sailing was discussed with enthusiasm.
🪩🪩💃🕺And then more fun ensued! Lights were dimmed in the marquee and the disco lights flashed….the music began with such popular hits that the dance floor was soon filled with excited, animated partygoers.🪩🪩🕺💃
Sunday came together with far too much wind to sail comfortably in St Austell Bay. This was the last day / evening of our 75th Anniversary celebrations.
Now we all know that Jeremy and Suzanne aren’t a bad team on the water, but put them in the galley and Wow.
They put together a simply top class 🌶️ Chilli and Jacket potato meal. Jeremy made three large pans of chilli of varying heats to tickle the taste buds. One mild, one medium and a third to make your eyes water. If that wasn’t enough, Kay spent her time making a delicious Vegan chilli option for non meat eaters. Baked potatoes were topped with chilli and salads and side dishes were added 🌶️
Entertainment for the night was provided by The Garker Street band who entertained us in the marquee with background music as the meal was enjoyed.
The clubhouse and marquee were soon full of happy diners and as plates were cleared, those that could eat more were treated to scones with jam & clotted cream. The bar was kept busy and gradually those that wanted to dance could use the energy saved from sailing to grace the dance floor. 💃🕺
Special thanks as always must go to everyone over all 3 days that helped make the weekend celebrations a time to remember both the onshore galley team, bar staff and club helpers and of course our wonderful team of on the water volunteers.
We really are an amazing club and look forward to celebrating many more years at PSC! 🎉⛵️
